Highland Volunteer Fire Department's mission is to
protect life, limb, and property of the resident's in the Town of
McCandless and surrounding mutual aid communities through fire
suppresion, rescue, hazardous material, and fire prevention activities.
A group a highly trained volunteer professionally certified officer's
and firefighter's provide service at a moments notice 24 hours a day and
365 days a year. We are a 100% volunteer organization with an agressive
trainning regiment to better serve you and your loved one's.

About Highland:
Highland Fire Department is located
in the Town of McCandless, about 12 miles north of Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania. We are a 100% volunteer fire department. Highland (along
with sister departments Ingomar 187, and Peebles 188) protects a 16
square mile area with 35,000 plus resident's. Highland has a roster of
28 active members, 5 associate members, and 1 honorary member. The
active roster maintains a Bronze level certification of volunteer
professional certifications through the office of the state fire
commissioner. Also, there are 18 Basic Vehicle Rescue Technicians, two
Paramedics and two Emergency Medical Technicians. The department
operates 1 Truck, 2 Engines, 1 Squad, and 1 Command Unit. Each unit
carries an array of equipment desgined for each of the vehicles specific
duties on the fireground or emergency scene. Highland specializes in
Truck Company Operations, while also maintaining skill and training in
Engine and Rescue Company Operations.

2012: Off to a Great Start!
This has been a great start to the year
for Highland! We are training hard to serve you the residents in the
Town of McCandless. Some of our recent trainings include the following:
-Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus Maintenance/Operations.
-SCBA Qualifications and Combat Challenge.
-Building Construction Therory.
Training Officer Stack has more instore this year. A big part our job is
to train to be ready! We continue to do so every year!
Also Highland has a few members preparing to obtain Volunteer
Professional Certifications through the Office of the State Fire
Commissioner.
We look forward to another great year in our proud and well run
organization!
